IICRC Fire and Smoke Restoration Technician (FSRT) Practice Exam

A masking agent is typically used as a time release agent in restoration processes. Its primary function is to cover or mask odors, providing an immediate effect while also gradually releasing agents that continue to manage and neutralize odors over time. This slow release helps in long-term odor control, making it particularly effective in environments where odors may be persistent due to smoke damage or other contaminants.

In contrast, wood restoration crème, enzyme deodorants, and heavy-duty degreasers serve different purposes in restoration work. Wood restoration crème is mainly used to treat and restore wood surfaces, enzyme deodorants function by breaking down organic materials responsible for odors, and heavy-duty degreasers focus on removing grease and heavy soil. While all these products have their specific applications, they do not provide the same time-release effect on odor management as a masking agent does.
